We invite you on Thursday, April 20, 2023 to kick off your Earth Day weekend a little early with an exhibition by Artist Rebecca Gazarik which is meant to spark conversation about Indiana’s dwindling native ecosystems due to agriculture and urban development. The “Quiet Voices of the Indiana Landscape” exhibition opening will take place from 6-9pm at The Garden.
The artwork features still moments of land, water, and biota inspired by the Hoosier state.
It is the artist’s intention to encourage our community to be aware of their surroundings, to get curious about the history of this area, and to foster stewardship of the land through conservation. Each piece brings a voice to nature using vivid gouache paint on a variety of surfaces including Birch wood panels, clay coated boards, and watercolor paper.
This exhibition will be on display at The Garden April 20-May 14, 2023.
About The Artist:
Rebecca Gazarik grew up in the western part of Pennsylvania and was fortunate enough to have woods, streams, and rolling countryside as her home. She graduated with highest honors from Columbus College of Art & Design where she majored in Illustration. She has lived in several states across the midwest before deciding on her current residence in Northeast Indiana. It was here in Fort Wayne, and during the pandemic, where she rekindled her connection to nature by diving into local geographical history of the region. She began painting wetlands in honor of the Great Black Swamp that once resided in this area. Rebecca's artwork has been on display in juried shows across Indiana, including the Honeywell Center (Wabash, IN), the SullivanMunce Cultural Center (Zionsville, IN), Indiana University (Kokomo, IN), and the Hamilton East Public Library (Fishers, IN). She has since decided to pursue a career in land stewardship, putting forth all her energy into the conservation of Indiana's natural heritage. She is honored to be working at LC Nature Park, a non profit organization in Roanoke.
