Gallery Opening Reception Thursday, November 2

learn more about Olivia

The feeling of saying yes to yourself, that feeling of self-trust, can be uncommon.

These moments of self-trust can take many forms. Such as choosing a new habit. A surge of self-assurance. Gaining the confidence to trust a decision. Recognizing more options are available. Or maybe, asserting a boundary.

My use of photo manipulation and black-out poetry plays with the fleeting yet lucid nature of these ah-ha moments.

As a medium, photography is the art of painting with light. I enjoy finding ways to display light’s sheer and ever-in-motion qualities.

As a conceptual artist, throughout all phases of life, art has been a companion in making sense of the world.

This body of work is an intimate look into exploring my difficulties and evolution with my own self-trust.

October 12 Kim Linker Solo Art Show Opening Reception

“For Everything There is a Season” (solo exhibition by kim linker)

Because nature is the predominate subject, I am always compelled to paint the season that we are currently experiencing. I feel connected to the cycles and rhythms of the natural world around me. God designed the seasons for the purpose of marking the passage of time and for giving us a pattern for the ebb and flow of life. God purposely shows us that there is a time for growth, a time for producing, a time to enjoy the fruits of our labor, and a time for rest. These rhythms run continuously through our mind, body, and spirits as well as in all God’s creation. This show is to celebrate the unique beauty that comes with each season.

Kim is a painter who leans toward realism, specializing in natural and pastoral landscapes. She uses acrylic paint because it allows her to build scenes through layering colors and textures. Kim was born and raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana, (more specifically, Maples). Residing on family ground, She enjoys living in a rural community neighboring several family members.

“I am fascinated and in awe of what God, the true artist, has created. Representing the play of light, shadow, and color gives me an exciting challenge that never grows old; I will forever be a sucker for a tree with character, water, or a pastoral scene. Anything that reflects the characteristics of God is beautiful. I am always searching for God in nature, and my passion is to try to capture a hint of that beauty.

After earning a Batchelor of Fine Arts degree from Ball State University, I worked in retail briefly before becoming a stay-at-home mom for many years. While working as a homemaker, I began painting murals at New Haven United Methodist Church. My artwork at the church then expanded into more murals throughout the community. Most of my murals are in New Haven, with a few other works in Monroeville and Fort Wayne.

Around 2015 Kim began painting on canvas and joined the Fort Wayne Artists Guild. At first, it felt overwhelming for her to use such small canvases after painting so many murals, but soon painting on canvases became a therapy and a passion.

Kim’s Awards include:

  • 2nd place in the oil/acrylic category in the Ventures Art Show 2023

  • Best of Show in the Ventures Art Show 2021

  • 1st place in the Garrett Members Show 2020

Live Folk Music: An Evening with Rachael Davis

Live Folk Music: An Evening with Rachael Davis

Rachael Davis is coming to The Garden for an incredible live performance!

This event is all ages. Doors open at 7:00pm, show starts at 7:00pm. Buy your ticket on Eventbrite - CLICK HERE!

Multi-instrumentalist Rachael Davis is as renown for her expressive--and explosive--voice as she is for uniting the often disparate worlds of folk, blues, country, and pop.

Davis grew up not only in a family of musicians, but in an extended village of remarkable musicians and songwriters who nurtured and mentored her from the time she was born. Beginning by jingling ankle bells in perfect time on her months old feet in the middle of old timey jams and song circles, to contributing newly minted songs to Music Sundays, Rachael has always found her own unique part in the music. Her clear tone and uncanny memory for just about every song she’s ever heard came early, and has served her well throughout her career. As a child Davis took to harmony, piano, and ukulele, and at 8, joined the family band Lake Effect, performing regularly at folk festivals throughout her home state of Michigan and around the U.S. By age 12, and continuing each year since, Rachael has brought the Wheatland Music Festival to its knees closing the Sunday morning gospel set with her stunning solo acapella version of Amazing Grace.

“I was learning everything I could get my hands on and when I was 17, my father gave me his Bart Reiter banjo and taught me to play clawhammer style,” recalled Davis. “I like to joke that cursed me for life.”

At 20, already a professional and deeply moved by traditional mountain music, blues, and ballads, Davis composed and recorded her debut album “Minor League Deities,” then with that, and a heart full of promise Rachael Davis headed to Boston the day after the 911 attack. There she began performing in city subways and the streets of Cambridge. Within months she had made her mark on the Boston music scene winning the prestigious Boston Music Award for Best New Singer/Songwriter.

Davis often found sanctuary in the city’s basement level record stores as well as Boston’s premier acoustic music clubs where she made fans and friends of local stage veterans Vance Gilbert, Cheryl Wheeler, Josh Ritter, and indie rock’s parade float princess, Mary Lou Lord.

“In a way, they’re all still with me today,” says Davis, “I was part of a real music community there. My story was just like theirs. We all knew we were on a path to find something and for that moment, we were all in the same place.”

Because Davis has been swayed by so many different types of music, her style is difficult to file and will not languorously rest amid broader musical genres. "My slant on acoustic music can be explained by a mixed cassette tape that my father played during my early childhood while driving in our family’s Chevy Cavalier station wagon we nicknamed Iggy. On one side of the cassette was the soundtrack for the film The Big Chill. On the other was John Hartford’s “Areoplane”." Today Davis describes her music as ‘Motown-Banjo’.
